Pray for Myanmar (Burma)

Chin Pastor Cung Biak Hum and his family

Myanmar’s military have recently been conducting ‘sweeps’ throughout Chin State, Myanmar. As the military move across the state, there have been many reports of villages being attacked. Homes and churches have been burned, citizens have been killed or forced to flee into the forest.

Who are the Chin people?

The Chin people are 90% Christian and live in the remote northwestern corner of Myanmar, the poorest region in the country. Christianity in Chin state can be traced back to the work of Baptist Missionaries in the 19th century, (particularly the American pioneer missionary Adoniram Judson). The Chin people have faced increasing persecution as Myanmar’s military has grown, along with pressure to convert to Buddhism.

Operation Anawrahta

Myanmar’s military is currently preparing to launch Operation Anawrahta,  a massive military campaign concentrated in the west and with a particular focus on Chin State. Troops, helicopters and jets are moving into forward positions, aiming to conduct ‘sweeps’ and major ‘clearance operations’ applying the strategy of the “three alls: burn all, kill all, loot all.”

Please pray for the Chin people during this heightened period of violence.

PRAYER FOR BURMA
Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted. Break the arm [mechanism of action] of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none. O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more. (Psalm 10:12, 15, 17-18 ESV)
